Te Uru Putoi O Te Arawa was formed to tautoko, manaaki me whakawhanaungatanga our rangatahi in this ever evolving society that we live.

Te Uru Putoi O Te Arawa has grown significantly from its humble beginnings and formation here in Western Australia. We have members from all tribal affiliations in Aotearoa New Zealand and all members are taught the specific style of performance of the Arawa people.

The Arawa tribe inhabit the Coastal Bay of Plenty from the coastal settlement of Maketu, through to the sacred mountain in the central plateau Tongariro.

This tribal group has a strong history of cultural entertainment, which spans a period of some 150 years.

With the world famous city of Rotorua within their tribal boundaries, Te Arawa have entertained tourists and national guests at many of their cultural centres and tourist resorts.

Te Uru Putoi O Te Arawa have become one of Perth City's most sought after Maori Cultural Entertaining Groups, with the group performing at different cultural events in and around Perth and the wider Western Australian region.

Being a premiere cultural entertaining group has seen the group perform for government functions, mayoral functions, commemorations and at some of the exclusive venues in and around the city.

Group directors Anaru Ahomiro-Paul and Kellie Te Kani have lead the group over a period of 4 years and because of their own passion for kapa haka have seen the group grow in strength and numbers.

Each member within the roopu play an integral part whether performing or in a supporting role.

In the late 1970s a number of Maori family members wanted to form a Maori culture club here in Perth.  After some discussion the Maori culture club was formed  with  the  sole  purpose of providing whanau and Maori living in Perth with a cultural connection to New Zealand.  We began with a children’s group supported by their parents called "South Sea Entertainers." From there we went onto forming an adults group called Te Rangatahi Maori club which was founded in 1979 with an emphasis on helping Maori youth.  Today that focus remains unchanged.
