Kauri 2000 is your chance to help recreate one of New Zealand's major natural assets - the kauri forests of the Coromandel Peninsula. The kauri (Agathis australis) holds a special place in the Peninsula's history. Magnificent forests once dominated our landscape, but sadly, after nearly two centuries of exploitation, only a handful of mature trees survive as lonely individuals or as small isolated stands, protected by the rugged hills.
