We commit ourselves to explore and define the depths of bicultural knowledge in Aotearoa – to enable us to rediscover ourselves, to know who we are, to know where we come from and to claim our own place in the millennium ahead.
We take this journey of discovery, of reclamation of sovereignty; establishing the equality of Maori intellectual tradition alongside the knowledge base of others. Thus, we can stand proudly together with all people of the world.

The Library - Te Whare Pukapuka. This index is from an unpublished manuscript compiled about 1925 by the missionary Rev. Henry James Fletcher (1868-1933). In its original form it was 987 pages long, a vast index of Maori names referred to in books and journals, including the names of boundaries, Maori individuals, canoes, trees, landmarks and geographical locations. It was Fletcher's greatest piece of work, and one that merited improved access.rnrnThe New Zealand Collection of the University of Waikato Library holds a microfilm copy of the index which was scanned, converted into a Word file, proofread, edited and converted into webpages.

Studying at Te Wananga-o-Raukawa gives you the opportunity to enhance your understanding of your whanau, hapu and iwi. For some, your research and writing at the Wananga will mean your first experience of your ropu tuku iho. In either case, if you are extending your knowledge of your whanau, hapu and iwi or for a new entrant to these groups, your journey can be rewarding beyond your expectation. Haere mai.

Te Reo Irirangi Maori O Te Upoko O Te Ika the longest running Maori Radio Station in Aotearoa / New Zealand, has been broadcasting since 1982 in Wellington City. Its history and whakapapa is strongly linked to the rise of Maori Language usage throughout Aotearoa. Its founding body, Nga Kawiwhakapumau I Te Reo, through the Maori Language claim to the Waitangi Tribunal in 1987, laid the foundations for today's nationwide Maori broadcasting presence in radio and television. Bi-lingualism also became an ideal for the nation as Te Reo Maori was offically made a second language of Aotearoa.
Our local AM broadcast covers the North Island from Hawera across to Hunterville, down through Manawatu, Horowhenua, Kapiti, The greater Wellington area, and over Cook Strait to the top of the South Island. On good days our signal gets across the Ruahine and Tararua ranges into the lower Wairarapa.
