This site was developed to inform us, and others, about ourselves as Ngati Kuta; what we are doing and what we plan to do. We are all over the world and we need to keep in touch to keep our historical feet on our whanau peice of earth for now and for our future generations. We may not have been born in Te Rawhiti and may not have had much contact but this website is an opportunity for us all to learn, to share and to contribute something to our electronic hapu.

In 1990 a hui-a-Iwi was called to set up a body separate from the Trust Board to be the Iwi authority for Ngati Kahu and receive government funding for the Iwi. This body was to be a runanga and care had to be taken to ensure that it was set up according to traditional Runanga criteria and not government legislative requirements. McCully Matiu played a pivotal role in the setting up of Te Runanga-a-Iwi o Ngati Kahu.

The Ngati Awa Community Development Trust was established on 24 April 2005 as part of the reconstitution of Te Runanga o Ngati Awa. The Trust is a Charitable Trust with the trustees appointed by the Runanga. Prior to the reconstitution of the Runanga many of the community development activities of the Runanga were undertaken by a very small Runanga executive team assisted by committees of volunteers. This approach had resulted in good progress in managing Ngati Awa's affairs since its establishment in 1981. However there are now greater expectations on the organisation which require full time management.

Prior to 1860, Ngaa Rauru Kiitahi was a prosperous iwi in south Taranaki who engaged in extensive trade with European settlements. The settlement pathway followed by Ngaa Rauru Kiitahi involved a great deal of hard work and covered three centuries of research. Ngaa Rauru Tupuna dedicated themselves to working towards a settlement of grievances of Ngaa Rauru Kiitahi with the Crown. They struggled against both a Crown and a society that had little or no intention of either admitting, or attempting to try and address the wrongs committed against our people by the Crown. In more recent times, the Nga Rauru Iwi Authority, the Negotiations Team, Legal Advisors and others have been involved in the Settlement process undertaking a significant amount of hard work.
