Whale Watch is a multiple award winning nature tourism company owned and operated by the indigenous Kati Kuri people of Kaikoura, a Maori sub-tribe of the South Island's larger Ngai Tahu Tribe.

Maori Tours Kaikoura was set up by Maurice and Heather Manawatu as a family owned and operated business. Our family are the indigenous people of New Zealand or 'Tangata Whenua' (people of the land). We belong to the sub-tribe 'Ngati Kuri' and our main tribe is 'Ngai Tahu'. We are descendants of Paikea - 'The Whale Rider.'

Kurahaupo has been formed by Ngati Apa, Ngati Kuia and Rangitane for the purpose of securing a comprehensive Treaty of Waitangi settlement for our people. By linking together three Iwi who share history and alliances, Kurahaupo creates powerful momentum for the negotiation of our Treaty of Waitangi settlement, and establishes a foundation on which to build a strong future for Ngati Apa, Ngati Kuia and Rangitane.

Council consists of a Mayor, elected across the community and 9 Councillors elected on a ward basis. The Vision Statement of the Hurunui District Council is: "Working together to build a better community"

Peter Jean Caley has evolved a very unique technique and his work is entirely freehand. He enjoys the challenge of large scale works and has a style that could only be described as inspirational realism. Developing his delicate use of colour and brush technique he has spent many years concentrating on wild life studies and portraits.
