This index is from an unpublished manuscript compiled about 1925 by the missionary Rev. Henry James Fletcher (1868-1933). In its original form it was 987 pages long, a vast index of Maori names referred to in books and journals, including the names of boundaries, Maori individuals, canoes, trees, landmarks and geographical locations. It was Fletcher's greatest piece of work, and one that merited improved access. The New Zealand Collection of the University of Waikato Library holds a microfilm copy of the index which was scanned, converted into a Word file, proofread, edited and converted into webpages.

When it was decided to make the broadcasts of the major Maori radio stations available on the Internet, it was considered important that these audio streams were placed in context. A context that included the stations themselves, the organisations charged with supporting Maori radio, and the people and events that have played a part in the story of Maori broadcasting Irirangi.Net is provided as a portal to Te Reo Maori radio broadcasting on the Internet. Browse the station websites, look at information provided by Te Mangai Paho and Te Whakaruruhau, read personal recollections about the Maori broadcasting story, or click on Whakarongo to listen to the stations. For a description of the Irirangi.net design and its meaning, click on the Matariki stars in the top left corner.
