Welcome to The Maori Directory (TMD) - FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions).

NOTE:  I cannot find what I am looking for on The Maori Directory?
There are over 16,000 Maori Businesses existing today, this does not include Roopu, Marae etc, thousands are yet to get listed on the website.  If you are unable to find what you are looking for then unfortunately we are unable to help you further.

Do I have to be Maori to add a listing to the Directory?

For Listings in Aotearoa (NZ)
  • You must be of Maori descent (Whakapapa/Genealogy) to add a listing. OR
  • Your Business or Service must specifically be of direct benefit to Maori i.e. Education Institute offering Te Reo Maori Wananga or Funeral Services that specialize in Tangihanga etc.
For Listings in Australia
  • NZ exPats, Maori, Pacific (Samoan, Cook Island, Tongan etc) welcome to list your business or service.  OR
  • Your business or service must specifically be of direct benefit to NZ exPats, Maori or Pacific Islanders. i.e. Goverment Services, Community Services, Funeral Services, Building Industry, Employment etc
2.  How Do I Add a Listing?
  • To Add a new listing, you must Register as a Member.  It is FREE to join. 
  • Please NOTE:  New Membership is not automatically approved due to spam (inappropriate content).  Upon signing up with a new membership, please allow 24-48 hours for your application to be approved by one of our team.  We are closed weekends and Public Holidays, applications are only approved during the working week, Mon-Friday 8-5pm (EST time).
  • Once you become a Member Log in with Username and Password, go to Accounts Area right column of the Homepage and click on "My Listings" then  "Click here" to add new one
    • Choose the correct Category and Sub Category(s) from the ROOT Directory drop down menu.
    • Enter all relevant information and ensure required fields are filled out - Please do not use All Caps (Capital Letters) throughout your listing and/or in titles, as such listings will not be approved.
    • All images and logos must be under 350 x 350 px and no larger than 400KB and saved in JPEG, JPG, GIF, TIF formats, large images will not upload.  Please ensure that there are no spaces - characters or underscores in your saved images i.e. Correct myimage.jpg, Incorrect my_image.jpg otherwise it will not upload.
    • Add the special code (security code) of letters/numbers.
    • Click "Submit Listing" at the bottom of this page
    • Double Check your listing is correct on the next page, especially Web & Email Addresses, Postal/Physical Addresses, Contact Phone Numbers... and follow payment details if a paid plan has been chosen
    • Confirmation by email will be sent to you of your listing upon being approved within 5 working days.
3.  Can I update/edit my listing and how often?
  • Yes you can update your listing 24/7, simply Login to the Accounts Menu with your Username and Password, click on "My Listings", click on the Edit Icon (image) beneath your listing to update your information, then click "Edit Listing" to save your update.
4.  Listing Approval:
  • Please allow up to 24 hours for your listing to be approved. (this is to prevent spam and inappropriate content being added to TMD).
5.  Change of Details:
  • Change of Details: Please ensure your contact email and/or phone numbers are current, simply login with your Username and Password (provided at the time of registration) and update your details.
6.  Lost/Forgotten Username/Password:
  • No problem! Email us with your Name and Business Name (i.e. biz name, marae, service) and we will send your password
7.  Automatic Listing Updates Every 6 Months:
  • We will email your address and or phone you from the details you have provided, (we do not solicit or do any sales haggling, we will simply contact you to confirm your listing has current contact details for your potential customers sole benefit)! We will make several attempts, following a continued 'no response' - ' bounce-back' or no answer to our phone calls, we will then remove your listing. This is to ensure The Maori Directory is regularly updated and listings that are no longer valid are removed.
8I don't have a website, can I still add my listing details?
  • Yes you can!  It is not necessary to have a website or email address.  However some basic details are required such as a contact phone number and/or mobile/cellphone.
9.  There is a listing on TMD that has incorrect information, can we rectify this?
  • Contact Us with the title (Name of Business, Org etc) so that we can verify and correct this information asap.  We add new listings all the time, however if you would like to manage this account (listing) we are happy to set this up for you to do so at no cost.  You must be directly related with the listing i.e. Business Owner/Company Director, employed etc with access/permission/right to do so. 
10.  What makes this Maori Business Directory any different from the rest?
  • For one, we are not specific to Maori Business.  The Maori Directory covers every sector Maori are in, from Associations and Community Groups, Marae, Iwi, Kapahaka, Cultural Performing Arts, Artists, Music & Entertainment, Events through to Education, Government & Political Bodies, Health, Sports... we have no bias!  And we are Global!
  • TMD is no fly-by-night venture, we have been researching and planning intently for 2 years and working diligently for months in building the largest most comprehensive One Stop Maori Directory Shop!
  • No more searching multiple directories for hard to find information pertaining directly to Maori. 
  • TMD is built and maintained by Maori for Maori and all to benefit from.
