So it’s for anyone but it’s especially for young Maori entrepreneurs. The site was developed as part of a research project jointly funded by the Foundation of Science, Research and Technology (FRST) and the Health Research Council (HRC). The James Henare Maori Research Centre was established in 1993, in response to a request from representatives of the Maori people of the Taitokerau for a research centre at the University of Auckland which would focus the intellectual resources of the University on issues relevant to their needs. It was named in honour of the late Sir James Henare, an eminent Maori leader and scholar, who played a key role in impressing on the University the importance of honouring its responsibilities in these matters. The Centre seeks to contribute to Maori social, cultural and economic well-being and advancement through its research programmes and activities.
